A DYING RACE, RIP 2002—2007
Though it has been some time since we parted ways an official announcement has never been issued so here goes:
After returning from the spring Canadian tour we were in another state of mind as to where we wanted to take the band. The members openly discussed the future and decided collectively to call it quits. There are a lot of reasons; the least of which are petty feuding between members.
Terry and I have been working at this band for over 5 years now and have made a lot of changes within the last few years to modernize the sound and blend with the changing musical landscape; while still keeping our artistic roots. Even though we are still happy with the resulting record (and the small faction of listeners who still enjoy fast punk rock love the album) it has no sustainability for the future. Kids just don't "get it" or have already gotten it and moved on. I find myself unable to attract opening spots for bigger bands because there are so few that we fit in with and those that we would fit in with are opting for bands with a newer sound to attract a different audience. As for the underground DIY scene they seem to want nothing to do with us at all. I had a harder time booking shows for the band this year then I did 5 years ago when the band first started.
On a personal level I have nothing in common with the "punk" of today. Talking to kids at shows about musical taste is like apples and oranges. Metalcore has gotten out of control and the fashion of scenester kids sets us apart even farther. On top of all of this the good vibes within the band have disappeared. It was a struggle for us to get on stage near the end because everyone was miserable. That was the nail in the coffin for all of us because over the years we have never had the feeling of wanting to be somewhere else when playing a show.
I am sad that it has come to this. If someone had of told me this would happen 8 months ago I would have told them to fuck off. But to continue is impossible at this point. We appreciate all the fans, promoters and family members who supported us on our journey down the path less traveled.
The future brings more music of a different nature from all of the members. Weins is currently working on a new solo project. Terry, Louis and I have formed a new band that will debut in the new year and Jim is doing his thing as always.
Forever pursuing the haunting dreams that don't fade with time.
